If you’ve been living in Bombay all your life then you’re no stranger to this place, but if you are fairly new to the city, well then, Crawford market is the place you need to go to if you want to do some cheap bulk shopping. But be warned, if you cannot handle crowds then you might want to prepare yourself because this place is as crowded and busy as your local train during peak hours but it’s definitely worth it.

What is it?

Crawford Market, also known as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai is one of the most famous markets which is located in the south of Bombay. Situated opposite the Mumbai Police headquarters, you can find wholesale of fruits as well as imported exotic fruits, vegetables and poultry. Besides food, you can also find imported items such as cosmetics, dry foods, household and gift items.

But the market itself is not limited to just the building. In the narrow lanes and streets that surround the building, you’ll find the streets filled with shops and hawkers. You will find them selling everything from cloth material to jewellery to bags to toys to even party and gift items. Whatever you need we’re sure you’ll find it here.

This is the place to visit if you’re planning a big party and need items for cheap. You also get material for wedding dresses, sarees, etc. at a lower price.

And if you’re really into arts and crafts you can hop onto the paper mart stores. Here you can find heaps and heaps of coloured chart paper, wrapping paper, ribbons, quilling paper and much more.
