Ah, summertime! While most parts of the world welcome it with open arms after a harsh winter, in Bombay, however, it’s not quite the same. Here summertime mostly consist of sitting near the fan or in an air-conditioned room in hopes to get some relief from the dreaded heat. When it comes to skin, for obvious reasons, your heavy winter skincare routine is not going to work.  You need products that are hydrating, refreshing and sebum controlling. And given that we are in the middle of yet another lockdown, buying skin care products isn’t on everyone’s go-to list RN. DIY Refreshing Face Packs

Yoghurt + Aloe Vera Mask

When it comes to hair and skin, Aloe vera is everyone’s go-to favourite during summer ‘coz of its antioxidant properties. Yoghurt, on the other hand, is known to moisturise the skin, reduce signs of ageing and soothe sunburns. Mixing both these ingredients together creates a face pack that will leave your skin feeling cool, fresh and soft — just what you need to beat the heat.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of aloe vera
  • 1 tablespoon yoghurt/curd

Method

Mix the ingredients together until you get a paste. Let the mask sit on your face for 15 minutes before rinsing.

Tomato + Honey Mask

If you’ve just returned from Goa and want to get rid of that uneven tan, tomatoes are the ideal natural ingredient. Tomato is famous for its de-tanning properties while honey is useful in fighting acne, eliminating dirt and dead skin cell and keeping the pores clean.

Ingredients

  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tbsp of honey

Method

Blend the tomato until you get the pulp and later, mix in the honey. Blend well and apply the mask to your face. Leave it on for 10 minutes and wash it off with cold water.

Cucumber + Yoghurt Mask

If you’re looking for a cooling face mask, try a bit of cucumber. Cucumbers contain both vitamin C and folic acid along with anti-bacterial properties which are a treat for the skin. It is said to reduce swelling, cleanse the skin and tighten pores and even combat premature ageing.

Ingredients

  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 tbsp. of yoghurt

Method

Blend the cucumber until you get a smooth paste and then mix in the yoghurt. Apply the paste on your face and let it sit for 30 minutes before washing it off. The mask won’t only refresh your skin on a hot summer’s day but also keep it hydrated.

Green Tea + Honey Face Mask

If you have oily skin, then a green tea face mask is just what you need. Green tea is packed with antioxidants that cleanse the face while honey and lemon juice helps get rid of skin infections like acne, pimples and other skin infections. Adding sugar will make it an exfoliant and aid in removing the dead cells, in turn, unclog pores.

Ingredients

  • 1tbsp Green tea.
  • 1 tbsp Raw Honey.
  • 1 tsp Lemon Juice.
  • 3 tsp brown sugar.

Method

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until you get a smooth paste. Apply the paste to your face and leave it on for 20 minutes before washing it off.
